Katherine Shields

Katherine Shields was a very loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was born on December 22, 1923 at Caddo. She went to be with the Lord March 13, 2010 at McKinney, Texas at the age of 86. She was married to Grover B. Shields, Jr. February 16, 1946 at Denison, Texas and they made their home at Caddo, Oklahoma. Mrs. Shields was preceded in death by her husband Grover, son Larry Shields, parents James and Mattie Wells, brothers Bill Wells and Jack Wells, sisters Nell Miller and Bobbie Boehme. Katherine is survived by her son, Grover “Bob” Shields III and wife Karen Shields of Zephyr Cove, Nevada, son Robert Clay Shields of Durant, daughter Brenda Katherine Bates and husband Kenneth Bates of Anna, Texas. She is also survived by a daughter in law Marilyn Shields of Denison, Texas. She is survived by her sister BoPeep Cleveland and husband Calvin of Atoka, her sister in law Mae Wells of Caddo and her brother in law Lloyd Boehme of Caddo. She was blessed with many grandchildren: Daniel Sean Shields, Amanda Shields, G. B. “Robert” Shields IV, Jonathan Shields, Lisa Hardin, Ernie Scott, Kimberly Shields, Robin Rosenkrantz, Crystal Nix, Robert Clay Shields, Jr., Michael Bates, and Timothy Bates. She was also blessed with many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Shields was a faithful Christian and long time member of the First Baptist Church of Caddo, and Robinson Baptist Church. She sang in the choir and was active in the senior citizens center at Caddo. She loved to grow a garden and cook for family and friends. She was well known for her home made hot rolls, cinnamon rolls, chocolate pies, banana bread and fruit cake. As a licensed cosmetologist, she operated her own business for several years before retiring at Caddo. Family hour will be from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday March 17 at Brown Funeral Home, Durant. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday March 18 at First Baptist Church, 309 Russell Street, Caddo. Reverend Bud Jenkins will officiate with burial following at Caddo Cemetery. Serving as pall bearers are G. B. “Robert” Shields IV, Daniel Sean Shields, Timothy Bates, Michael Bates Kenneth Bates, and Gary Boehme. Honorary pall bearer will be Lloyd Boehme.
