Walter Lee Anderson

Walter Lee Anderson was born February 16, 1948 and passed away November 7, 2014. He is survived by cousins Jeannie Kay, Donna Jo, Ruth Ann, Jerry Lee, Gary Don, Ray Gene, Robert Lynn (Bob), Faye Lee, Robert Paul, Tommy, Donnie, Bonnie, Dale Ray, Floyd Lee and Naomi; mother and father-in-law Johnny and Ada Hodge; brother-in-laws Danny, Steven and Ronnie Hodge and sister-in-law Karen Cagle. Walter never met a stranger and is loved by many family and friends and will be missed by all. When he was a very young child his mother, Jeanetta, passed away so he was adopted by his grandparents Ervie Lee Anderson and Lille Nora (House) Anderson. Being raised by his grandparents gave him many brothers and a sister instantly. Walter was a Baptist by faith and his faith helped him get through his many challenges in life. He had been attending Hebron Baptist Church and enjoyed his time of fellowship there. Walter graduated from Denison High School and immediately joined the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was honorably discharged July 19, 1972. He married the love of his life, Gathia Hodge, and she passed away on December 24, 2005. He and Gathia followed his career which led him to become a crane operator, not just a crane operator but these were the big cranes that you might see driving down the highways. One of his co-workers said Walter was the best crane operator in Texas. He was employed by Crocker Crane in Irving, Texas and this job led him back closer to home to work with Scharff Crane in Sherman, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanetta; his grandparents which were his adopted mom and dad, Lillie Nora (House) Anderson and Ervie Lee Anderson; uncles (truly brothers) including George Tommie (G.T.), Oscar Lee (Mutt), Raymond Leonard (Pete), Ervie Lee Jr. (Jack or Andy), Obey Ray; aunt (truly sister) Lillian and dear cousins Jackie Elaine (Anderson) Wilson and Mary Allen (Anderson) Van DeWater. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to John and Betty Weimer. They became his landlords when his job relocated him to Sherman, but they became much more than landlords, they became family. It provided comfort to the family knowing that they were close by and good neighbors to Walter. In memory of Walter, because he was about helping others, he would be proud to be remembered by your contribution to a charity of your choice. A graveside service will be Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 11 AM at Gethsemane Cemetery in Caddo, Oklahoma. A family hour will take place prior to the service at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel in Durant, Oklahoma from 9 AM to 10 AM.
