Barbara Ruth Wright

Barbara Ruth (Martin) Wright entered this world in Roosevelt, Arkansas on July 28, 1944. She graduated from Pleasant Plains High School in 1962. On February 1, 1964, she married Captain John R. Wright (Ph.D) of the United States Air Force, NORAD. They were married nearly 40 years. In 1977, Barbara earned her degree of Bachelor of Arts from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Barbara was very talented and gifted. She painted, was a member of the Rose Garden Club, was skilled in photography, drafting, refinishing wooden furniture, home remodeling, was a Faculty Dame, and a homemaker, amongst many other things. She wrote and published a children’s book devoted to her grandson, Faron. Barbara loved nature and gardening. She had a soft spot for animals and rescued many. She donated to many causes, including the Veterans, and, St. Jude’s. Barbara loved playing marbles, cards, tennis, and golf with her grandsons, and took care of her great-granddaughter when she was a baby. She was always there for her family when they needed her. Always generous, Barbara never failed to give people a ride if they were walking or give them financial help if they were needy. Barbara just loved people and was a strong person. She lived life fearlessly, and was a Christian. She lived by her motto: “Don’t worry about things, God will take care of you.” Barbara left this world at Featherstone Assisted Living in Durant, Oklahoma, on September 18, 2019. She was surrounded by family, friends, staff, her Chaplain, Leon, and nurses who loved her. She loved them too. In the last part of her life, she never stopped looking for her grandson. She will see him again now, and so many loved ones who went before her. She was a special and beautiful person. There will never be another Barbara. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Hansel B. and Elvey L. Martin, her beloved grandson, Faron Wright, and a great-nephew baby, Benjamin. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Karen (Wright) Prus, beloved grandsons Corporal Ethan Frings of the United States National Guard, and, Asa Frings and significant other, Joanna, great-granddaughter Alexia Wright, brother, Richard Martin of St. Charles, MO and beloved wife, Shirley, niece Cindy Mathews and her family, nephew Steve Martin and his family, and, a little great-grandbaby on the way. Barbara leaves behind many relatives and friends. Barbara is home now in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, where there is no more pain. “I shall pass this way but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.” --Etienne de Grellet du Mabillier A Memorial Service for Barbara will be held Thursday, October 24th, at 6:00 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Father James Blagg officiating.
