Charles R. “Charlie” Crawford, 71, of Durant, OK and Las Vegas, Nevada passed from this life on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. A Celebration of Charlie’s life will be held on Saturday, January 9th, 3:00 PM at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel 4900 W US 70 in Durant, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM prior to the Celebration. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 11th, 2:00 PM at Campbell-Lewis Chapel 226. S. Odell in Marshall, Missouri. William W. Harlow will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Charlie was born May 23, 1938 in Blue Lick, Missouri to Samuel Raymond and Elta (George) Crawford. Charlie attended and graduated from Marshall Public Schools and was currently the CEO of Crawford Machine Service, Inc. Charlie married Betty Edwards on July 28, 1979 in Las Vegas, Nevada and they have been blessed with 30 years together. Charlie was a member of the Elks, life member of the Safari Club and a life member of the Rockie Mountain Elk Foundation. Charlie was of the protestant faith and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, Nascar, working, four wheeling, the outdoors and traveling. Charlie will be greatly missed by all who knew and dearly loved him. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Lacy Marie Ryan. Those loved ones left behind to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife, Betty Crawford of the home; children, Charles Edward Crawford and wife Cathy of Marshall, Missouri, Diana Bretthorst and husband Joe of Ashland, Missouri and Sherri Ryan and husband Mark of Seattle, Washington; brothers, George Crawford and wife Charlene of Marshall, Missouri and James L. Crawford and wife Sue of Ashland, Missouri; grandchildren, Corrick Crawford and Chandra Crawford both of Marshall, Missouri, Cody Bretthorst and Samantha Bretthorst both of Ashland, Missouri and Sam Ryan and Alex Ryan both of Seattle, Washington; numerous nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends. Charlie will be laid to rest at Hazel Grove Cemetery in Herndon, Missouri at a later date with Corrick Crawford, Sam Ryan, Alex Ryan, Scott Locher, Hans Schafer and Lee Shattuck serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Medley, Carl Crawford, Wayne Gaddy, Edward Dysart, Tom Vogl, Vince Shrader and Don Dillard. Memorial contributions may be made to Sunshine Hospice of Durant, OK; First Christian Bereavement Committee, Marshall, Missouri; Haze Grove Cemetery, Marshall Missouri; American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
