Dorris Irene Rice

Dorris Irene Rice was born on September 23, 1929 in Comanche County, Oklahoma to Alonzo Alexander and Hattie Arebella (Moreland) Aldridge and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 17, 2013 at the age of 84. Dorris and Edgar Rice were united in marriage on November 12, 1948 at the First Baptist Church in Apache Oklahoma and spent 64 years together until his passing in May of 2013. Dorris came to Marshall County in October 1968 from Electra, Texas. Dorris attended the Oklahoma College for Women and SOSU where she attained her Masters and Post grad. Dorris was a teacher for all of her life and was a part of the prime timers group in Durant. She enjoyed going to church, teaching Sunday school, swimming, sewing, needle work, and spending time with her grandchildren, and all of her family and friends. Dorris is preceded in death by her husband Edgar; parents Alonzo and Hattie Aldridge; and her brothers and sisters Charles Alvey Rae Aldridge, Lonnye Mae Aldridge-Boydston, Raymond Huebert Aldridge, James Hermon Huckleberry, Clarence Ishmael Huckleberry, Claude McDonald Huckleberry, Leona Marie Huckleberry-Steckman, Harold Eugene Huckleberry, Mary Lou Huckleberry-Grunden, Eula Aldridge, Dela Mae Aldridge Huckleberry, Alonzo Alexander Aldridge Jr., Granville Aldridge, and George William Aldridge. She is survived by her sons G. William (Bill) Rice and wife Annette of Cushing, OK, James S. Rice of Cumberland, OK; daughter Laurie G. Rice of Sun Valley, CA; grandsons John Hilton and wife Jennita of Cushing, OK, Bryan Spencer and wife Tracey of Jinks, OK, Harrison William Rice of Oklahoma City, OK, Mikel Lee Davenport and wife Laura Beth of Durant, OK; granddaughter Karen Irene Rice of Minneapolis, MN; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Services to celebrate the life of Dorris will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Community Christian Church with Bro. Jim Bliffen officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Apache, OK at 3:00 PM. The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Friday July 19, 2013 from 6-8 PM in Durant.
