Edna Francis King

Edna went to her Heavenly Home on Monday evening, July 26, 2010 at the Medical Center of SE OK at the age of 90. She loved life and enjoyed every moment by sharing her beautiful smile and laughter with family and friends. Services for Edna will be held on Friday, July 30th, 10:00 AM at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel. Rev. Tom Lackey of McAlester, OK and Rev. Ross Kirven will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery with grandsons, Brandon Cook, Michael Cook, Kyle Rhodes, Alan Rhodes, Danny Tyler, Randal Tyler, Roby Tyler and Zach Brown serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Harp, Paul Eppler, Everette McGuire, Kenneth Eppler and Johnny Keithley. Edna Francis (Tyler) King was born on June 25, 1920 in Durant, OK to John B. Roby and Altha Blackman Roby. She married S.P. Tyler in 1936 and was blessed with two sons, Bennie and Jimmie. In 1964, she married John W. King in Fort Worth, TX and was blessed with a daughter, Carol. Edna worked in the Durant area at Swinney Drug, Pullen Department Store and Deleon’s Peanut Company. After moving to Fort Worth she was employed by Montgomery Ward for 30 years. Edna and John retired in 1982 and moved back to Durant. Edna was a member of the East Side Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder for 9 years. Her faith remained her rock until the end. In spite of her complicated illness and health issues, she kept a very positive attitude and thanked God every day for her good life. The passing of this beautiful, generous and nurturing woman will hold a special place in the hearts of all that knew her. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, John and Altha; step father, Floyd Maupin; husbands, S.P. Tyler and John King; one son, Bennie Tyler; two brothers, Jim Roby and J.R. (John Robert) Roby; one sister, Bessie Roby Cornell. She is survived by son, Jim Tyler and wife Donna; daughter in law, Goldie Tyler; sister, Betty Nell Hooper and husband Thurman all of Durant; daughter, Carol Rhodes and husband Marty of Broken Arrow, OK; ten grandchildren, Kimberly Tyler Brown and husband Zach, Randal Tyler and wife Pam, Lisa Tyler Van Hoecke and husband Bob, Roby Tyler, Danny Tyler and wife Toma, Randy Tyler and wife Nancy, Teresa Cook and husband Mike, Rhonda Rhodes, Kyle Rhodes and wife Angela and Alan Rhodes and wife Cindy; 14 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. The family wants to extend a special heartfelt thank you to the staff at Oakridge Rehab for giving Edna such loving care.
