"George" Luther Erron Hankins III

Luther Erron Hankins, III or to those who know and love him, ‘George’, 55, passed away on April 13, 2024, after a hard battle with his health. He was a beloved and cherished father, papa, husband, and friend. George was a very proud tribal member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and held his pride for his culture very near and dear to his heart. George was born on February 27, 1969, in Maryville, AZ to the late Luther Hankins, Jr. and Flora Hankins Winship. He grew up in Durant, Ok schools and worked to become an electrician from the young age of 16. Taking a break from electrician work from 1995-2001 working at Indian Nation Wholesale. He returned to the electrical field in Durant from 2001-2012 in Durant, Ok. As his health declined, he retired to work in the family business and be with his family. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others. More than anything, George was a devoted father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, sharing stories, playing games, and watching their favorite TV shows. He was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced. He was patient and compassionate and showed love to his family and anyone near him. In his free time, George enjoyed grilling for company and his family, throwing horseshoes, river trips, NASCAR, Street Outlaws and, listening to rock’n’roll and country music LOUD. He loved bonfires at the lake, or home, and had a love for the music that played with the fire. Some of his fondest memories were with his nephew, Greg, playing the guitar and visiting with a few beers by the fire. He was always eager to share his knowledge and sense of humor with others. He was the rock of his family and took on many others, that may not be blood but will always remain part of his family and the love he shared. He was not afraid to show love, patience, and compassion to anyone that needed him. George and Helen Hankins were married in Sherman, Texas on June 2, 1989. They would have been married 35 years this June. They had 3 boys, Luther, Joe, and Georgie of Durant. They brought in and raised 3 other special kids and raised them as their own, Autumn, Joshua, and Joseph. They shared 17 grandchildren, Georgia, Luther, Logan, Marick, Marleigh Kye, Markys, Josh, Marley Jade, Little Joe, Amaya, Graycie, Brailey, Raelyn, Karter, Taven, Arora, Gabriel, and Bella: to which George lived his life for and loved most in this world. He was there for them every day and every performance but also every sick day to spoil and love them. He was this families ROCK! He loved his dogs like he did his children, Ali-May, Boe, and Charlie. He spent countless hours caring, playing, and loving these dogs. They were his support as much as he was for them. With their love of dogs, opened and owned ‘Helen’s Dawg House’! George loved his clients and loved playing with all the pets. He was the boarder and loved walking his clients’ pets and spending time with them when they couldn’t be with their families. The love George had for life around him will be forever cherished and remembered. George is survived by his loving wife Helen Hankins, his children, Luther Hankins, IV and wife Shelley, Joseph Hankins and wife Amber, Georgie Hankins and wife Adrianna, Joseph Castaneda, Autumn Pepperman and Josh Statler and wife, Carolyn. And to anyone that knows him, the highlight of his life, his grandchildren, Georgia, Luther, Logan, Marick, Marleigh Kye, Josh, Marley Jade, Little Joe, Amaya, Graycie, Brailey, Raelyn, Karter, Taven, Arora, Gabriel, and Bella. He also leaves behind 2 sisters, Tina Small and husband John of Durant and Jana Danker of Edmond; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Hallett of Texas and Lori Reed of Arizona and many cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as aunts, Dot of Texas, Jo of Oklahoma, and Mildred of Missouri. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Luther Hankins, Jr and Flora Hankins Winship, his brothers Rick, Alan and Neil Hankins and his grandson Markys Jude-Allen Hankins. His memory will be cherished by all who know him. Funeral services to celebrate “George” Luther Erron Hankins III will be held at 2:00 PM Monday April 22, 2024, at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel. Sierra Haney will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery with Paul Sweeney, Maurice Baker, Taylor Atterberry, Michael Scott, Andrew Dollar, and Arturo Najera serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Posey, Larry Posey, Luther Hankins, IV (son), Joseph Hankins (son), Georgie Hankins (son), Helen Hankins (wife), Josh Statler (son), and Joseph Castaneda (son). The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 3-5 PM. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brownsfuneralservice.com.
