Gerald Ray Johnson

Gerald Ray Johnson of Calera passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the age of 78. Ray was born January 27, 1935 in Albany, OK to Fred James Johnson and Velma Viola (Chapman) Johnson. He attended school in Albany and then joined the United States Army in 1953 and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1956. Ray married Rose Marie Gier on August 8, 1974 in Mesquite, TX and in 1988 they returned to Bryan County. He loved spending time with his family, coaching youth baseball, drinking coffee with the boys at Wrights, and sitting on the back of his pick up watching his cattle. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Ben Johnson, Wayne Johnson, and Larry Johnson, one sister Norma Bryce, and granddaughter Rachel Wagoner. Ray is survived by his loving wife Marie Johnson of the home, two sons Gerald Ray Johnson Jr. of Holdenville and Robert Johnson of Bokchito, two daughters Liz Chitty of Gardendale, TX and Tammy Wagoner and husband Roger of Gardendale, TX, one step son Daniel Hughes and wife Theary of Sacramento, CA, one stepdaughter Tami Hounshell and husband Gary of Cartersville, KY, one brother Bill Johnson and wife Suzanne of Rockwall, TX, three sisters Karen Lloyd of Fort Worth, TX, Fern Madera of Leveland, TX and Claudia Hamilton and husband Argus of Oklahoma City, OK, grandchildren Cody Chitty, Cory Chitty, Mathew Wagoner, Dalton Johnson, Kolton Dixon, Hailey Bond, Leilani Hughes, Hannah Hughes, Yaly Hughes, Phetkra Hughes, Zack Hounshell, Gary Hounshell and Andrew Hounshell and four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel with Chaplain Monty Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Albany Cemetery with Mark Johnson, Eric Johnson, Benny Wayne Johnson, Freddy Johnson, Carl Marlow, Jay Hurt and Chad Sefcik serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be James Rice, Eddie Don Ervin, Odell Hedrick, Ray Honeycutt and Wes Dillard. Family hour will be from 6-8 PM, Tuesday, March 26, 2013.
