Gerald Lee Phillip Wilcox

Gerald Lee Phillip Wilcox was born on January 19, 1971, in Oklahoma City, OK to Ronnie Wilcox and Sharon (Sanderson) Wilcox. He passed from this life on February 19, 2017 in Plano, Texas at the age of 46 years and one month. Gerald attended elementary school in Durant and Caddo and later, in 1989, graduated from Silo High School. After graduation he moved to Las Vegas where he worked as a Carpenter's Apprentice, a Teamster, a manager at Dolly’s Café and at Bally' s Casino as a Sports Writer. To support his work at Bally's he completed bartending school. Gerald used his earnings from Las Vegas to pursue his dream and attend the Los Angeles Film School where he completed an Associate's Degree in Cinematography in 2010. In his spare time Gerald enjoyed playing golf, fishing, cooking and making his large family feel loved. Gerald’s death was sudden and his family mourns deeply but he continues to help others and their families by being an organ donor. Gerald is survived by his grandmother Corinne Sanderson of El Sobrante, CA, his mother, Sharon Wilcox of Durant, OK, and his father, Ronnie Wilcox of Red Oak, OK. Growing up, Gerald was the youngest of nine children. He had seven older sisters and one older brother watching out for him. Gerald's siblings are: Rhonda Bennett [Terry] of Muskogee, OK; Ronnie Wilcox Jr. of Kenefic, OK; Kelli Bryan [Robert] of Mead, OK, Rose Ledford of Eagle River, AK; Robin Bell [Kevin] of Durant, OK, Rajeana Johnson [Reese] of Oklahoma City, OK; Rochelle Barfield [Grant] of North Richland Hills, TX and Cheryle Dillingham [Gary] of Durant, OK. In addition to his grandma, parents and siblings, Gerald is also survived by seven maternal aunts and uncles, two paternal aunts and uncles, 23 nieces and nephews and 22 great nieces and nephews. To all of this extended family, Gerald showed the love that only a young uncle can. Just as his eight older siblings looked out for Gerald when he was young, for the past six years Gerald looked out for his extended family. Always showing up with something to help when one of the family had a need. Always tending a rack of ribs on the smoker when family was gathered. Gerald was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Walter Lee and Barbara Wilcox, his maternal grandfather Alfred Phillip Sanderson and one beloved baby niece, Catherine Dillingham. A celebration of Gerald’s life will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Durant, OK. Rev. Jeff Corson will officiate.
