Ivan Noel Kelly

Ivan Noel Kelly entered this life on June 10, 1943 in Durant, Oklahoma born to Jack Drake and Mary Catherine (Crowder) Kelly and entered into eternal rest on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at his home in Durant at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 26 days. He attended Russell Elementary School, Durant Middle School, graduated from Durant High School and attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He married Carolyn Wells on March 22, 1965 and to this union were born two children, Cynthia and Brian. He loved helping others in need and had a strong commitment to serving the people of Durant and Bryan County. He was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Bail Bonding Commission and was a devoted basketball official and baseball umpire in the surrounding area from 1970 to 1983. He deeply loved his family and treasured his time with his friends drinking coffee at Wrights Drive Inn. He enjoyed playing dominos, building and mowing. Ivan will be deeply missed by his family, friends and the people of Durant and Bryan County. Ivan is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 plus years Carolyn Kelly of the home; children Cynthia Kelly and Brian Kelly of Durant; brother Morris Kelly and companion Betty of Durant; sister Barbara Gantt and husband Soloman of Ada; grandchildren Caleb Spence of Durant, Chloe Spence Kendrick and husband Jordan of Kingston and Dal Kelly of Pottsboro; mother in law Laverne Wells Maddox of Durant and other relatives and friends. Ivan was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Mary Kelly; sisters Mary D. Kelly and Lorene Frances Melton; and brother Dick Kelly. A celebration of Ivan’s life will be held on Monday, October 10th, 2:00 PM at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Lee Armstrong of Victory Life Church officiating. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Price, Mickey McKnight, Don Parker, Lawrence Elliott, Bobby Dobbins, Roger Gatlin, Edly Mullens and Bill Adams. Honorary Pallbearers will be Monty Montgomery, Royce Allen, Tony Simmons, Caleb Spence, Jordan Kendrick, Dal Kelly, Rip Tidwell, Willie Pruitt, Troy Holland, Larry Jackson, Nathan Garrett, Tim Garrett, Charles Calhoun and Marvin Phillips. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM prior to the service. Public viewing will be held on Saturday from 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM and Sunday from 1:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
