James Robert Hedgecoke

James Robert Hedgecoke was born on October 29, 1929 in Amarillo, TX to R.H. Hedgecoke and Opal (Guthrie) Hedgecoke and passed from this life on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 in Denison, TX at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 23 days. James attended and graduated from Clayton, NM High School in 1947. He proudly served his country as a Captain in the Texas National Guard until his Honorable Discharge and he retired from SW Bell Telephone as a service manager after forty plus years. He married Carroleen M. Meeker on March 5, 1964 in Denison, TX and they spent 47 wonderful years together. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Durant and lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. James was the Texas National Guard commanding officer and officer in charge of two National High Power Rifle Competition Teams. He was an avid reader, expert marksman, decorated sharpshooter and enjoyed genealogy. James is survived by his wife Carroleen Hedgecoke of the home; daughters Sandy Cook of Desoto, TX, Randye Hedgecoke of San Diego, CA and Margaret Sue McClure of Durant, OK; sons James Randall Baker of Borger, TX, Robert Wade Baker of Bellingham, WA and Randall Carrol McClure of Durant, OK; sister Veda Tucker of Ruidoso, NM; brother Wade Hedgecoke of Las Cruces, NM; grandchildren Clayton Todd Cook, Kacie Cook Mendez, Misty Goodwin, Kelly Hendricks, Nikki McClure, Seantelle McClure and Shane McClure; great grandchildren Dalle Jo Beal, Caleb John Mendez and Matthew Paul Mendez and numerous other great grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his parents R.H. and Opal Hedgecoke; infant daughter Carol Lynn Hedgecoke and granddaughter Tara Carpenter. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 27th, 3:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Durant. Bro. James Robinson will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery with Todd Cook, Jon Paul Mendez, Cody Spoon, Shane McClure, Justin Hendricks and Todd Hendley serving as pallbearers.
