Joella Ruth Hicks

Joella Ruth Hicks (August 25, 1953 - September 13, 2024) Joella Hicks, a vibrant and talented woman, left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew her. Born on August 25, 1953, to her mother Emaline Baker, Joella is a proud member of the Choctaw Tribe. Her adventurous spirit and zest for life led her to travel extensively, exploring new places and experiences. After the loss of her beloved husband, Alex Hicks, in 2009, Joella returned to her hometown of Durant, Oklahoma, where she rediscovered her roots and reconnected with her community. She served as Second Vice President of the Choctaw Seniors under President Marilynn Mitchell, a dear friend, for two years, dedicating herself to the well-being of her fellow tribe members. Joella's passions were diverse and numerous. She delighted in solving puzzles, creating intricate beadwork, and savoring coffee with her dear friend Bea Bridges. Above all, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, leaving an enduring legacy of love and devotion. Preceded in death by her mother Emaline Edith Baker, husband Alexander Garner Hicks Jr., brothers Travis Lee Baker and James "Butch" Baker, and beloved sister Louella Jo Baker. Joella is survived by her brothers Melvin and wife Marline Womack and Marvin and wife Barbara Womack. Children Samantha Cartlidge, Frank Littrell and Jennifer Anderson, and Marvin Littrell and Stephanie; grandchildren Joel "Leif", Ariel and husband Josh D., Kiersten, Kaylee, Elizabeth and Marvin Jr.; great-grandchildren Emma and Jeanette daughters of Ariel Littrell, Ashlynn, Ja'Coby, and Julian children of Joel Leif Littrell, Savanna, daughter of Kaylee Littrell, Faith Lynn and Mavis Jackson, children of Elizabeth Bijelic; and numerous extended family and friends who will deeply miss her warmth, wisdom, and generosity. Services to Celebrate Joella’s life will be held at 2:00 on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel in Durant, Oklahoma with Nephew Pastor Lee Couch, husband of niece Tamara Couch officiating.
