Joyce Marie Keithley

Joyce Marie (Roberts) Keithley of Durant, OK, surrounded by her loving family, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the age of 88. She was born on July 24, 1929 in Durant, OK to Harry Bruce Roberts and Euphia Mae “Bill” (Roach) Roberts. She married Troy Leo Keithley on September 27, 1947 and spent most of their married life in Durant. They had sixty-nine wonderful years together until his passing on November 28, 2016. Joyce was a graduate of Durant High School where she was active in music and art. Her talents, including sewing, painting, and writing poetry, carried over into her adult life. She was involved in many activities and projects of her daughters and her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with each one and was sure they always had something good to eat. Even though she wasn’t too fond of cooking, she will be remembered for making the best coconut cream pie, banana pudding and sweet tea. She was baptized into Christ at the 7th and Beech Church of Christ in Durant and attended there until her health and eyesight didn’t allow her much time away from her home. She enjoyed being the church secretary for several years. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers, Jack Kenneth “Bud” Roberts, James Bruce “Jim” Roberts and wife, Verna Dean Smith Roberts and Carrol Eugene Roberts. She is survived by two daughters, Christy Mullens and Ellen Forrester of Durant, OK. She was a second mother to Tanya Sue Robertson Hazzard of Austin, TX and her daughter Tessa Spencer of Corpus Christi, TX.; four grandchildren, Lori Kelly of Dallas, TX, Ashley Mullens of Pottsboro, TX, Kris Patton of Durant, OK and Jessica Nichols of Calera, OK; six great-grandchildren, Jillian Kelly of Dallas, TX, Maddox Martinez of Dallas, TX, Kylan Knapp of Van Alstyne, TX, and Ryenn Nichols, Brooklyn Nichols and Grayson Perry all of Calera, OK; siblings, David Roberts and wife Gerry of Poteau, OK, Linda Andisof Durant, OK, Jane Lewis and husband Sidney of Durant, OK, Jon Roberts and wife Dianne of Durant, OK, and sister-in-law Faye Roberts of Durant, OK along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held Saturday, March 31 at 11:00am at the 7th & Beech Church of Christ, Durant, Ok. Online condolences may be made to the family at brownsfuneralservice.com.
