Larry Gene Blundell

Larry Gene Blundell was born on December 17, 1945, to parents Reuben and Nina (Jones) Blundell. Larry passed from this life on August 22, 2026, at the age of 80. After graduating from high school, Larry graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1973, with his master’s degree. In his early years, Larry worked for the Durant Fire Department and later taught school in Plano, Texas. He left teaching and went to work for IBM as programmer and research specialist. Later in life he returned to teaching and retired in 2009. Larry proudly served his Country in the United States Army Reserve until he was Honorably Discharged. Larry was a man of faith and deeply loved his Lord and Savoir. His joys in life were eating good home cooked food and spending time with his family. His two great great nephews, Waylon “Big Brother” and Weston “Hoss” were his greatest joy by far. He enjoyed going fishing with family and friends, building computers, and was good with a mechanic’s wrench. He loved helping people and giving of his time. Larry is preceded in death by his parents Reuben and Nina Blundell; sisters Gladys Loveall and Lou Bone; brothers-in law Bill Bone and Don Cheek. Larry is survived by his sisters Judy Dunegan and husband John and Mary Jo Cheek; nephews Chad Dunegan and wife Patty, Derrick Dunegan and wife Shandy, and Donnie Cheek and wife Ethelynn; nieces Kim Nisbett, Robin Tenis and husband Bill, Barbara Davis and husband Billy, MSchell Cheek Flowers, Necole Harrold, and Linda Loveall; great nieces Mckayla Laymon and husband Alton and their children Waylon and Weston and Ashlee Dunegan; long time friend Mark Ichord and numerous extended family and dear friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday September 2, 2026, at Brown’s Durant Funeral Service Chapel. Bro. David Sanders will officiate. Larry will be laid to rest at Rosehill Cemetery in Calera with Chad Dunegan, Derrick Dunegan, John Dunegan, Alton Laymon, Chance Kelly, and JW Jordan serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Ichord, Danny Hodge, and Huel Brumley. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Tuesday September 1, 2026, from 6-7 PM.
