Margaret Josephine Gordon

Margaret Josephine (Smith) Gordon of Calera, was born on Monday, July 14, 1924, to William Wade and Onie Pearl (Bays) Smith, in Denison, TX and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 5, 2014 in Durant at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 22 days. Margaret Smith and William Preston Gordon Sr. were united in marriage on September 13, 1944 in Reno, Nevada and spent 56 years together until his passing on October 4, 2000. Margaret attended various schools in Texas before coming to Bryan County from San Francisco in 1950. She was a homemaker all her life and a member of the First Baptist Church of Calera. Margaret enjoyed gardening, reading, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Meme, as she was known to all her family, had such a strong love for them all and would help them with anything they ever needed. Her kindness and patience were always evident when she kept her grandbabies. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. Meme was strong in her faith and knew exactly where she was going upon her death. She longed to join her husband and parents who were already in heaven. Margaret was a true patriot, loving her country fiercely and always willing to speak up for the ideas America was founded on. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Gordon Sr.; parents Wade and Ona Belle Smith; infant daughter Paula Gordon; sister Jenny Faye Smith. Margaret is survived by her sons Billy Gordon and wife Delie of Bokchito, Jim Gordon and wife Jill of Durant; daughters Linda Clay and husband Larry of Colbert, Marsha McCain and husband Garry of Duncan, Gayla Guillory of Durant; grandchildren Ladonna Eldridge and husband David, Melissa Gordon, Melanie McClure, Ryan Gearhart and wife Lindsay, Michelle Hall and husband Shawn, Jerry Arthur and wife Shannah, Kevin Gordon and wife Misty, Steven Gordon and wife Ramona, Nikki Wallace and husband Darren, Heather Benito and husband Alejo, Grace McCain, Kelli Ostman, Preston Guillory, Krista Ribera and husband Chris; 33 great grandchildren and numerous other family and friends. Funeral Services to celebrate the life of Margaret will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Calera, with Rev. Jacob Toews officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-7:30 PM Friday, June 6, 2014. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Calera with Kevin Gordon, Steven Gordon, Jerry Arthur, Chris Ribera, Preston Guillory, Darren Wallace, Alejo Benito, serving as pallbearers.
