Marion Clinton Carr

Memorial services will be held for Marion Clinton Carr, 84, Thursday Feb 25 at 1 pm at Brown‘s funeral home in Durant, Oklahoma. Minister Harold Brewer will be officiating. Graveside services will follow at Pleasant Hills Cemetery. Marion was born on May 1, 1925 in Durant, Oklahoma and passed away on Feb 22, 2010. He was born to Swenney and Lillian Carr. He was one of seven children. His siblings were Thelma McPeak, Juanita Taylor, Doyle Carr, Elaine Taylor, Wayne Carr, Wanda Sue Goosley, and Sharon Kay Harber. Marion was a proud member of the Choctaw Tribe. His father, Swenney Carr, was one of the original enrollees of the Dawes Roll. While growing up, Marion worked with his father cutting wood and doing odd jobs. He also worked raising peanuts. Marion married Willie Laverne Carr on Jan 15th 1944 in Atoka, Oklahoma. At the time of his death, they had been married for 66 years. They had seven children together, Clinton Carr, Floyd Carr, Sonja Carr, Donnie Carr, Debbie Carr, Dennis Carr, and Pamela Carr. Marion and his family moved to Lamont, California in 1957. Marion worked for DiGiorgio Farms and several other farming companies throughout the years. He was well known for his hard work ethic in the Weedpatch/Lamont area. Marion also raised livestock and pigs were his favorite. Marion’s hobbies included fishing at Lake Isabella, hauling junk, listening to bluegrass music, and going to Hometown Buffet. Marion was a member of Faith Temple church in Bakersfield, California and the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Caney, Oklahoma. Marion’s last wishes were that all of his kids would attend church. Marion is preceded in death by his parents, Swenney and Lillian Carr, daughter Sonja Carr, siblings Doyle Carr and Thelma Carr, nephew Doyle Carr Jr., grandchildren Sherri Carr and Zachary Carr, great-grandchild Calab Kendrick. Marion is survived by his wife of 66 years, Willie Laverne Carr, children and spouses Clinton and Hattie Carr, Dave and Barbara Carr, Donnie and Nancy Carr, Dennis and Annabelle Carr, Pam and Rick Kendrick, Debbie Carr, 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Pall bearers will be grandsons Marion “Hammer” Carr, Michael Carr, Brian Carr, Mathew DeWoody, Rick Kendrick Jr, Brandon Carr, Dakota Brand, and Austin Carr. PDF Printable Version
