Mary Ruth Russell

Mary Ruth Russell, 82, of Durant went home to be with her Lord on July 20, 2011. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday in the Brown’s Durant Funeral Chapel. Rev Jack Ball will officiate. Mary Ruth was born on May 4, 1929 in Bokchito, OK to Earl and Mattie (Smith) Malone. She married the love of her life, Manuel “Pop” Russell on July 28, 1945 and the two were happily married for sixty years. A person of strong Christian faith, Mary Ruth was a true example of the Proverbs 31 woman. She loved the Lord and exemplified Christ in the way she treasured her family, respected her husband, and served others. Her life was a wonderful example for her sons and grandchildren to follow. She enjoyed the outdoors, spending many hours working in her garden and fishing with Pop. Spending time with family and friends brought her great joy; especially watching her grandchildren grow and play. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister, Este Lee Deslot, brother, Billy Joe Wells, and granddaughter Eladean Russell. Survivors include two sons and their wives, David and Brenda Russell of Durant and Bob and Marcelle Russell of Roswell, NM. Her granddaughters and their husbands include Lisa and Pat Whitley of Durant, Crystal and Jay Williamson of Belgrade, MT, Amber and David Bullard of Durant, Pam and David Savage of Durant, Melody Dyer of Acton, CA, Tricia and Chad Determan of UK, and Tami Hooper of Ft. Worth, TX . She was blessed with twelve great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Siblings include Lloyd Wells of Bennington, OK, Lonnie Wells and wife Alma of Lovington, NM, Carrie Scholl of Odessa, TX and Ralph Wells and wife Gaylene of Bennington, OK. Pallbearers will be her nephews Donald Phillips, Hopper Phillips, Brian Phillips, Larry Knight, Brad Knight, and Clint Knight.
