Melba Jewell Shipman

Melba Jewell Shipman entered this life on October 28, 1936 in Denison, Texas born to Claude Edward Galyon and Vesta Jewell (Stroud) Galyon and entered into eternal life with her Lord and Savior on June 19, 2010 in Plano, Texas at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 22 days. She attended and graduated from Borger, Texas Public Schools and then married W.T. “Dub” Shipman on June 4, 1954 and they were blessed with three children. She worked as a bookkeeper for an engineering firm and also a travel agency. Melba and W.T. moved to Coleman in 1997 after retirement. She was of Church of Christ faith and was active at the Coleman Church of Christ. She enjoyed square dancing, traveling, playing board and card games, watching baseball and spending time with family and friends. Melba will be greatly missed by all who knew and dearly loved her. Melba was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. Those loved ones left behind to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, W.T. “Dub” Shipman of the home; children, Don Shipman of Amarillo, TX, Rhonda Jean Ingham and husband John H. of Ft. Worth, TX and Ronald “Puckett” Shipman and wife Robin L. of Arlington, TX; sister, Nita Jo Mayo of Sheridan, AR; grandchildren, Sarah Jean Ingham, Cynthia Joy Ingham, Jarrett Thomas Shipman and wife Taylor, Andrew Jacob Shipman, Ethan Isaac Shipman and Kyle Ray Shipman; sisters in law, Marjorie Galyon of Irving, TX, Wanda Galyon of San Antonio, TX and Marge Galyon of Amarillo, TX; and numerous other relatives and a host of dear and loved friends. Services to celebrate the life of Melba were held on Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel. Don Willingham and Mark McDaniel officiate. Interment followed in Oak Grove Cemetery with Jarrett Shipman, Andrew Shipman, Ethan Shipman, Trey Mills, Cody Willingham, Don Shipman, Ronald “Puckett” Shipman and John H. Ingham serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers were Cory Willingham, Kaylon Walters, Kyle Shipman, Cody Sharp and Cannon Sharp. The family received friends at the Funeral Home on Monday evening.
