Michael Lee Kennedy

Michael Lee Kennedy, 48 of Durant, Oklahoma passed through heaven’s gates on January 12, 2015, where he had two precious babies waiting upon his arrival. Michael was born in Topeka, Kansas on December 17, 1966 to Hugh Arthur Kennedy and Beatrice “Anita” Emmons. Mike was the eldest of three children that the couple share and he held the title proudly. He was a long time resident of Durant, Oklahoma and graduated from Durant High School in 1985. Not long after graduation, Michael joined the United States Navy. While in the navy, Michael enjoyed traveling to various areas of the world. His love for traveling continued on in his life and he and his family traveled often. In October of 1990, he met LaWanda Rose, the love of his life, and they were married October 30, 1993. In 1999 the couple was blessed with a beautiful baby boy that they named JonMichael “Tyler” Kennedy. Their family was yet to be complete until the birth of their beautiful daughter Allyson Rose in 2001.With Michael’s love of traveling they often packed their family up for weekend getaways. They enjoyed spending time together while visiting family, friends, and simply enjoying life. Michael was a devoted Christian and spent a lot of his time ministering to anyone in need. He felt that his faith in the Lord was something to be shared and he was willing to share it with anyone who would listen. He loved to talk and would talk to anyone. Mike truly never met a stranger. This is a skill that helped him become very successful as an insurance salesman. From a very young age, Mike had a strong work ethic. With nearly 20 years in the profession, Mike won numerous awards for his performances and sales. Throughout his lifetime, he brought a smile to many faces every day. He enjoyed making others laugh and to see every person that he encountered smile. He took an interest in everyone’s lives, even if he had only known them for a short time. His family will always consider him larger than life and will miss him dearly. Michael is survived by his wife, LaWanda Kennedy, son, Tyler Kennedy, and daughter, Allyson Kennedy all of the home; Mother Anita Emmons of Durant, father, H.A. Kennedy and wife Mavis of Nicoma Park, sister, Vickie Kennedy-Sgroi and husband Joe, of Yukon; Brother, Tony Kennedy and wife Dawnita of Ardmore; Nephews Timothy, Dusty, Dillon, Dallas, and Derrik Kennedy all of Oklahoma; Niece, Brandy Mothersell and great niece, Brooklyn Page of Yukon, and numerous more. He was proceeded in death by his son Michael Lee Kennedy; and unborn child; Paternal Grandparents Hugh and Carrie Kennedy and Maternal grandparents Virgil and Virginia Carroll. PDF Printable Version
