Nakeeta Nichols

Tishomingo, OK- Nakeeta Jeanne (Willard) Nichols was born February 13, 1935 in Ryan, Oklahoma to Arlton Willard and Violet (Phifer) Willard. Nakeeta passed from this life on Thursday, July 14th, 2022 in Tishomingo, Oklahoma at the age of 87. The family moved to Johnston County at an early age where she attended schools at Fillmore and Milburn. She graduated in 1954 from Milburn High School. Nakeeta loved the Lord and enjoyed reading the Bible. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and canning. She was a very talented artist and loved to paint. Nakeeta also spent countless hours researching family history, spending time with family and those she dearly loved. She was a volunteer at the Veterans Center where she cooked and served veterans. Nakeeta went to Beauty School and obtained her beautician license in the early 1960s and opened and operated Nakeeta’s Beauty Shop in Tishomingo. In 1976, she graduated from Murray State College and later from East Central University with a degree in Criminal Justice. Nakeeta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don Nichols; daughters, Teresa Jeanne Scruggs and Laura Ray; brothers, Richard Willard and Royce Willard; and sisters, Antoinette Ardrey, Joyce Kopczynski and Susan Driggers. She is survived by her daughter, Kelley Summers and her husband, Steve, of Ada, OK; son, Derek Collins and friend, Wanda Eubanks, of Tishomingo; granddaughters, Sydney Nickel and husband, Patrick, of Ada, OK; Lauren Ogren and husband, Kane, of Fayetteville, NC; and Whitney Landrum and husband, John, of Springfield, MO; one sister, Norma Chaney of Tishomingo; four great grandsons, Sawyer, Korbin, Lawless and Oliver; great granddaughter, Scarlett; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 19th, from 6-8 PM at Brown’s Funeral Home in Madill. Services to celebrate Nakeeta’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 20th, at the Calvary Baptist Church with Pastors Mike Eklund and Larry Strouse officiating. Interment will follow at Condon Grove Cemetery in Milburn with Bo Cannon, Patrick Nickell, Rob Hageman, John Howard, Mark Einfieldt, Marty Chaney and Logan Chaney, serving as casket bearers.
