Ramona Pearl Cox

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God believe in me also. In my Father’s house are many rooms, if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” John 14:1-2 On February 11, 2025, Jesus fulfilled His promise by calling Ramona home. Ramona (Bowen) Cox was born in Yuba, OK, on June 21, 1932, to Bud and Thelma Bowen. She spent the first eighteen years of her life at Yuba graduating in 1950. Ramona married Ab Cox, of Scipio, OK, on November 28, 1953, in Yuba, OK. Then they moved to Scipio, OK, building a life together and raising their two sons, Den and Lynn. Ramona loved to fish, hunt and camp out with her family. When visiting her home, most people knew to bring a sack lunch because you never knew what you might find in her freezer, raccoon, possum, and even rattlesnake. After the death of her husband on March 5, 1977, she went to work for the Indianola Public Schools. There she worked in the cafeteria and later moved to the classroom as a teacher’s assistant until her retirement. Ramona’s work and love for children at school led her to become involved with fostering children. Over a span of years, she fostered almost ninety children in her home: encouraging, loving, reprimanding and teaching them about Jesus. She thought everyone in the family, especially the young ones, should have a gift at Christmas. Ramona would work all year creating with her hands homemade gifts for her family including nieces and nephews. This past year we received a book in which she had written scripture and inspirational quotes for each of us. She also loved working jigsaw puzzles and playing Bingo at Four Seasons. She loved the Lord with her whole heart. While enduring the death of her husband, both sons, and cancer her faith never faltered. She spent many years working with the Ulan Baptist Church and later with Indianola Baptist Church in Indianola, OK. Ramona was so funny, which was usually unintentional, and the strongest woman our family has known. She was deeply loved and admired and will be missed in the same way. Preceding her in death with her husband and sons are her parents, one brother Doug Bowen and two sisters Jean (Bowen) Ridley and Quata (Bowen) Porter. Survivors include two brothers Tom (Donna) Bowen of Calera, OK, Randell Bowen of Denison, TX, and sisters Deanie (Bowen) City of Haworth, OK, Ruth (Bowen) Daniel and W.C., of Coleman, OK, and Barbara (Bowen) Wells and Stephen, of Durant, OK, and one grandson, David Cox of Helena, OK. Ramona is also survived by a great number of nieces and nephews and friends Our family would like to express our gratitude to Four Seasons Nursing Center for their love and care, the doctors and nurses of Alliance Health Hospital, and Centric Hospice. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday February 14, 2025, at the Ulan Cemetery at Ulan, OK. Pastor Mike Underwood and Stephen Wells will preside over the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Durant Funeral and Cremation Service.
