Rita Ann Rains

Rita Rains, 59, of Durant, Oklahoma went home to be with the Lord, on Thursday, December 14, 2017. She was born on October 31, 1958 in Durant, Oklahoma, to Charles and O’Neta Rains. Rita was born and raised in Durant, and later moved to Dickinson, Texas where she graduated from Dickinson High School. She then moved to Dallas, Texas for a number of years. She left Dallas, TX and returned home to Durant to begin a career as the Office Manager for her nephew, Dr. Jason DaVault. She was passionate about her career, taking care of her boss, and dedicated every minute to building a relationship with all of the doctors, nurses, patients, and administrative staff in the medical field. When she was out of the office, she loved spending time with her family and friends and taking care of all her beloved fur babies. Her love and talent for crocheting came from her mother, O’Neta. Rita had always been a lover of animals, enjoyed horseback riding, was a long time Drag Boat racer, and loved riding her Harley with friends. But no matter where she was, she was always listening to Aerosmith, and awaiting the day Steven Tyler swept her off of her feet and flew her off in his jet, Aero Force One. She was a long time member of the Durant High School Band Alumni Association and has been a huge supporter of the Pride of Durant Band. For decades she has been a member of the Southern Drag Boat Association and Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series. Through these organizations, she has built many life-long friendships. Rita made friends everywhere she went. It didn’t matter if you had been friends for years or minutes, everyone had an instant connections with her. She also might have been a stand up comedian in another life. If you were going to spend time with her it wasn’t a bad idea to carry an extra change of pants. Even on your worst day, she was your biggest fan and knew exactly what to say to cheer you up. Everyone knew that she loved the color purple, her dragonflies, and her favorite saying was “Believe”. And as she was heading home, she made her way around to say her goodbyes and, “I love you, Honey” to everyone. However, her best attribute was her selflessness to be there for anyone and everyone she loved. It didn’t matter if you were well, sick, happy, or grieving, she was always ready to drop everything and be the glue to hold us all together. Rita was preceded in death by her mother O’Neta Coker Husband. Brother Randy DaVault, and her beloved fur child Harley Beth, as well as, many of her cherished guardian angels. Rita is survived by her father Charles Rains and step-mother Alice of Kingston, OK, Step-father Jerry Husband of Durant, OK, Sister Angie DaVault-Tomme and husband Bucky of Durant, OK, sister Marla Rains Fawks of Durant, OK, sister Kim Rains Hunter of Lawton, OK, sister Kristin Corbin and husband Scott of Durant, OK, sister Jackie Hardwick and husband Jim of Gordonville, TX, brother Sean Farrill of Kingston, OK, brother-in-law Randy Fawks of Caddo Mills, TX, and brother-in-law Jack Hunter of Lawton, OK. Nephew Dr. Jason DaVault of Durant, OK, nephew Dustin DaVault and wife Jennifer of Durant, OK, niece Ashley Hamilton and husband Seth of Denison, TX, niece Alyssa Fawks of Durant, OK, nephew Todd Hunter and wife Rimmie of Lawton, OK, nephew Mikie Hunter of Lawton, OK, niece Nichole Asbury of Wichita Falls, TX, niece Brianna Hunter of Lawton, OK, niece Lauren Robison and husband David of Denison, TX, niece Rachel Corbin and girlfriend Staci Willis of Broken Bow, OK, and niece Meagan Hardwick of Gordonville, TX. Great nephew Jayden, Great niece Marnie K, great niece Shylan, great niece Celina, great nephew Tristen, great niece Breelie, great niece Harlee, great niece McKennzie, great nephew Rykr, great nephew Rugr, great nephew Royal, and soon-to-be great nephew Seth Knox. As well as, many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends who she considered family. Rita’s Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Fairview Baptist Church in Durant, OK, with Pastor Bill Ledbetter officiating.
