Waymon Bryant Thompson

Waymon Bryant Thompson Waymon was born on September 24, 1936, in Clarita, Oklahoma to parents John Floyd and Gladys Myrtle (Fox) Thompson. Waymon passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years 10 months and 21 days. He graduated from Ada High School class of 1954 and later married Helen Stiles on June 2, 1956. They were united in marriage for 70 years last June and they were able to celebrate with their family before Helen’s passing on June 12, 2026. As a high school student, he had a paper route for the Daily Oklahoman delivering papers and collecting payments on his Cushman Scooter. After graduation, he went to work at Trader Mills in Ada and later he went on to have a 30-year career at Brockway Glass until his retirement on January 1, 1993. He was later selected to work 2 years after Brockway closed to disassemble all the machines. After his final retirement he did lawn care service for 12 more years. He gave his heart to Jesus as a young man in a tent revival in Ada. He was “Daddy” to Barbara (Thompson) Rhynes and Darrell Thompson, father-in-law to Keith Rhynes and Doree Thompson, the very best Papa to Dr. Jason Rhynes (Heather), David Rhynes (Katherine), Dallas Rhynes (Tamyra), Dannon Thompson, Deede Sparks (Cody), and Dalton Thompson ( Jordyn), great Papa to Madilyn Rhynes Tubbs (Layton), Kohl Rhynes (Haylee) Stella Rhynes, Blake Rhynes, Collin Rhynes, Julia Rhynes, Lela Sparks, Robert Sparks, Beau Thompson, Richie Sparks, and one great grandson on the way. He loved all of his family and the lack of Papa’s rules were the BEST! He also had a family with all the workers at Featherstone Assisted Living in Durant, where he lived for 3 ½ years. He could give them all a run for their money. They were a special part of his life as he was theirs. Centric Hospice and all of his nurses were his family also. Their love and care went far beyond medical needs. A celebration of Waymon’s life will be held at 1:00 PM Friday August 21, 2026, at the First Baptist Church in Durant. Waymon will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Helen in Ada, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Durant Funeral and Cremation Service.
