Gary Dale Powell

Gary Dale Powell entered this life on May 25, 1968 in Durant, OK born to Gary Don and Mary Joan (Sherefield) Powell. Gary passed away on September 11, 2016 in Durant, OK at the age of 48 years, 3 months, and 17 days. Gary was a lifelong resident of Bryan County. He graduated from Durant High School and was very proud member of the 1983 Football State Champions. He married Leslie Carr on October 1, 1994 and they were blessed with two children, Dylan and Mackenzie. Gary worked as a production manager for Emerson Test Systems for 25 years, and then as Plant Manager for Thermal Pipe Systems for the last 2 years. He was a member of Mead Baptist Church and he enjoyed hunting, collecting coins and going to the John Teel auctions, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his kids. He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him. Gary was preceded in death by his Uncles, Johnny Sherefield and Wayne Powell; Grandparents, Albert and Mildred Sherefield, and Jasper Powell. Gary is survived by his wife of 21 years, Leslie Powell of Durant; Children, Dylan Powell and Mackenzie Powell of Durant; Parents, Gary and Joan Powell of Durant; Brother, Steve Powell and wife Edie of Durant; Grandmother, Juanita Powell of Colbert; In-laws, Roger and Mary Carr of Durant; Brother-in-law, Ryan Carr and wife Courtney; Sister-in-law, Ashley Carr; Nephews, Ryder Carr and Kaleb Powell; Niece, Gracie Powell; Aunts and Uncles, Donnie and Patsy Sherefield, Delores and Donald Smith, and Bob and Olevia Olson; and numerous extended family and friends. A Celebration of Gary’s Life will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel in Durant. Mike Goodwin will officiate. Family visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Honorary Pallbearers will be Greg Ogle, Jeremy Whitaker, Doug Bailey, Ryan Carr, Mike Edwards, Jarrod Whitaker, and Lonny Miller. In lieu of flowers, the family has established the Gary Powell Scholarship Fund at any First United Bank location.
