Joe Roy Calhoun

Joe Roy Calhoun was born on Thursday, June 29, 1944 in Bennington, Oklahoma to William Everett Calhoun and Eva Pearl (Hall) Calhoun. Joe passed from this life on Saturday, August 15, 2026 in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 82. Joe was raised in Bryan County and attended schools at Smith-Lee, Bennington, and Bokchito. Joe married the love of his life, Meredith Joan Canard, in Durant. She preceded him in death on May 25, 2021. Joe was a successful businessman from cutting wood to owning a trucking company, 2 grocery stores, nurseries, and flea markets. He owned/operated Outlaw’s Night Club for many years. Joe was of the Baptist faith and loved the Lord. He was a Christian man who read and studied his Bible daily. After the death of his wife and daughter, he read his Bible to his Chow Chow, Boo. Joe was saved as a young boy and baptized, but was baptized again in 2025. He and Brenda were like most siblings (fighting and fussing) but was always there for one another. Brenda will greatly miss their daily phone calls but knows that he is rejoicing in Heaven with their loving mom and dad, his wife Joan, daughter Leslie, and many of the loved ones who have gone before. Joe loved fishing, and his favorite fish was perch and crappie. Joe was a huge fan of Oklahoma Sooners football and softball. He will be missed by his family and good friends. Joe was also preceded in death by his brothers, Dawson Calhoun, William Everett Calhoun Jr “Sonny”, and Jimmy Calhoun; sisters, Edith Heath, Dorothy Kellum, Norma Harris, and Linda Calhoun. He leaves behind his sister, Brenda Phillips and husband, Bobby of Bennington, Oklahoma; brother, Don Calhoun of Wade, Oklahoma; son, Troy Talley and wife, Nelsis of Keene, Texas; grandsons, Christian and Kyle, both of Keene, Texas. Joe also had 2 special daughters, Lori Wells and Renee Englutt. Services to celebrate Joe’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 21, at Wade Cemetery pavilion in Wade, Oklahoma. Pastor Ryan Perry will officiate. Pallbearers will be Joseph Stevens, Richard Stevens, Randy Stevens, John Dellinger, Tommy Dellinger, and Todd Dellinger. Honorary pallbearer will be Aaron Stevens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 20, at Brown’s Funeral Home in Durant.
