John Elwood Fields

John Elwood Fields, 66, of Durant, Oklahoma, went to be with the Lord on April 10, 2026. John was born on September 23, 1959, in Columbus, Ohio, to Robert J. Fields and Rosa Marie Fields, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Washington Court House High School, Class of 1977, and continued his education at Liberty University and DeVry University. On June 30, 2000, John married the love of his life, Lou Anne Fields. Together, they built a life centered on faith, love, and serving others. John’s life work was ministry. He was the co-owner of Count Your Blessings Christian Bookstore, where he created a place of encouragement and faith for the community. He also faithfully supported his wife in her work as a CPA. Through Victory Life Church in Durant, John served as a care pastor and was deeply involved in prayer ministry, offering guidance, support, and encouragement—especially to the men he mentored. He was known for his steady presence and compassionate heart. John found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved Jesus, his wife, Ohio State football, the Christian music group Petra, a good cup of coffee, and making and sharing his famous brownies. His faith was the foundation of his life and guided the way he loved and served others. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Kenneth Johnson; and his grandparents, Delbert and Ethel Toppins. He is survived by his devoted wife, Lou Anne Fields; his daughter, Harmony Dunlap and her daughters, Abi and Kahlan; his stepdaughter and son-in-law, Dallas and Lori Taylor, and their sons, Lane and Owen; step-son, Kurt Morris; his sister, Rosetta Russell; and his nieces, Jessica Hall and Tami Campbell. A family visitation will be held Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Service in Durant, Oklahoma. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, April 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Victory Life Church in Durant, Oklahoma. John will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his servant’s heart, and his contagious laughter. His life was a reflection of the message he shared so freely—one of hope, encouragement, and counting your blessings. Services are under the direction of Brown's Durant Funeral and Cremation Services.
