Mary Ann Remshardt

Mary Ann Remshardt, age 79, of Durant Ok, passed away March 31, 2026. We have lost a dear friend and loved one. We barely had time for the word cancer to sink in, before she was gone. Mary Ann was born January 22 1947, in Seattle WA, to William J Riley & Anne Cecilia Maloney Riley. Mary Ann was raised in Phoenix Az. and graduated from Xavier College Preparatory in 1965. She began her nursing career at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center School of Nursing in Phoenix in 1969. She went on to pursue higher education in nursing next at Montana State for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in Bozeman Montana, followed by a Master’s of Science in Nursing from TWU in Dallas TX. , and finally with a Doctor of Education from Texas A & M. She spent many years working in the medical field where she build lasting friendships and gained the respect of those she worked alongside. She loved teaching and has taught many nursing students from Alaska, to Texas to Oklahoma over many decades. She spent most of those years at Grayson College and ECU. Her retirement has been spent on her other favorite hobbies, her beloved husband Bill. Cooking for him, watching movies together, and traveling in their motor home together. She loved growing flowers, mowing the yard and reading, always reading so many books. If you wanted to find Mary Ann , look in her favorite chair, where she was reading another book. She loved to tell stories about the old ICU days, shenanigans from 55 years ago, we always wondered why we didn’t get into trouble. She leaves behind a whole lot of loved ones missing her every day. She had a big heart and left an positive impression on everyone who crossed her path. She is survived by her husband, William (Bill) Remshardt, her brother, Jimmy Riley of Washington; a son Jason Remshardt & Sarah Stewart of Colorado, son Brian Murray of Dallas TX, granddaughters, Bryn Murray of Durant and Kathleen Murray of Dallas. Many Remshardt’; Jera Remshardt Austring, BFF of 55 years that introduced her to Billy, Jill Gordon, Steven & Susan Remshardt all of Durant. Jill Remshardt & David Valentine of Sherman TX. Nieces/nephews: Sindjia Austring & Rylee Gray of Durant, Danielle Weatherford of Wasilla AK, Jenna Gossett of Denton TX & Cannin/Jaysee Gossett of Big Lake AK , Kallie & Cameron McKnight of Wasilla AK & Tristan/Sarah Austring of Albuquerque NM, Steven/Ramona Gordon of Sherman TX & Kevin Gordon of Durant, Jessica/Sean Corbin of Abilene TX , Jeremy & Melanie Remshardt of Durant, Nikki/Caleb Berry & Jeff Remshardt of Durant, Andrew/Katie/Bryan Remshardt & Will Remshardt, Sherman TX. And many more nieces & nephews who will cherish her memory. She will also be missed by special lifelong friends: Sheila Otter, Paulette Nordin, Barb Beringer, and Jeanie Hardin. She was preceded in death by her parents, William & Anne Cecelia Riley; brother Michael Riley, mother & father- in- law William & Marjorie Remshardt; brother- in- law, Brian Remshardt.
