Toy C. Marlow

Toy C. Marlow of Utica, Oklahoma passed away on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012 in Durant at the age of 80 to ride his horse on the Old Chisholm Trail to meet up with his heavenly father and ride the open range with his brothers who preceded him. Toy was born in Bokchito, Oklahoma to Charlie H. and Minnie Bell Marlow. He married Barbara Ann (Cates) on June 6, 1952 in Sherman, Texas. Toy chose training racehorses and working as a cattle rancher, as his lifelong career. Toy had that special way with animals and could perform miracles. He loved helping everyone and spending time with his family. Riding horses was a very important part of Toy’s life and continued to be throughout his retirement years. He especially enjoyed riding his horse “Jet” and helping his son feed cattle. Toy was one of the last “real” cowboys. He was also a proud tribal member of the Choctaw Nation. Toy is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Marlow of the home, daughters Vickie Marlow Walker and husband Gary and granddaughter, Tracy Walker of Durant, Kim Marlow Rowland and husband Maxie of Caddo, Carma Marlow Elliott and grandson, Cody Elliott, and son, Carlton Marlow and wife, Melissa of Utica, Oklahoma, and grandchildren Amanda Marlow Springer and husband, Kent of Caddo, Chad Marlow of Bokchito, and Step-Grandson, Dalton Rodriguez of Prague, Oklahoma, along with numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by one sister, Charlene “Sis” (Marlow) and husband, Gene Smith of Bokchito, Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his parents, CH and Minnie Bell Marlow, and four brothers, CH Marlow, Glenn Marlow, Roy Marlow, and Jack Marlow and two special nephews, Terry Smith and Danny Smith. He will be remembered for his way with horses, love of animals, and “cowboy” kindness to everyone he met. Toy Marlow was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation. Family Hour will be from 5-7 P.M. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Brown Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the First Baptist Church, 200 North Eden, Bokchito, Oklahoma with Rev. Preston Burns and Rev. Clifford Joines officiating. Interment will follow at Bokchito Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Rich, Chad Marlow, Kent Springer, Jeff Wilson, Dustin Angelo, and Ty Remington. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Walker, Maxie Rowland and Arvil Milligan.
