Virgil Miles Hill

Virgil Miles Hill entered into his eternal rest on Thursday, March 17 2016 in Durant Oklahoma. He was born February 13, 1947 in Oklahoma City, OK the son of Edna Lucille Swancy Hill and Virgil Milton Hill. Virgil graduated from Antlers High School in 1965, and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War in the United States Navy aboard the USS Coral Sea. He retired from Texas Instruments in Sherman Texas. After he got out of the Navy he returned to Southeastern Oklahoma, where he married his first and only love, Melba Wilson in Colbert, OK on June 27, 1969. Together they created a legacy of love and friendship in their home on Lake Texoma for forty-six years and raised a daughter and a son, six granddaughters, one grandson, and are proudly awaiting the arrival of three more grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Virgil worked as a machinist by trade and loved twiddling away in his wood shop listening to gospel bluegrass, and sharing the love and grace of Jesus Christ. Some of the fondest days of his life were when he served the Lord as pastor at Cumberland Baptist Church at Cumberland Cove for six years. One of Virgil’s proudest accomplishment’s, was his son Brian who is was waiting for him in Heaven and his daughter Melanie. He was also proceeded in death by his parents Virgil M. Hill, and Edna L. Hill, his brothers Calvin Joe, Alfred Roy, Vernon Milton, Richard Clarence, and sisters Mildred Alene Stuart, and Shirley Ann Row. Virgil is survived by his wife of 46 years, Melba Wilson Hill, of the home , daughter Melanie Hill Palmer and husband Terry Palmer of Cooper, TX, daughter in law, Courtney Blomgren Hill of Libertyville, IL, granddaughters, Courtney Paige Palmer, Ashley Danyelle Palmer, Madeline Ann Osborne, Abigail Pearl Palmer, Reagan Elizabeth Hill, Mikenzie Grace Hill and grandson Blake Edward Cissell, sisters Sherry Farthing of Durant, Ok, Ida Estelle Houck and husband Billy Houck of Durant, OK, brother in law Paul Wilson and wife Rebecca Wilson of Boswell, OK, sisters in law Frances Branton and husband Joe Branton of Hugo, OK, Betty Ulan of Paris, TX, Mary Bodine and husband Billy Bodine of Hugo, OK, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and brothers and sisters in Christ. The family hour will be at Brown’s Funeral Home from 2-4 on Sunday, March 20, the funeral will be Monday at 2:00 pm at Streetman Road Baptist Church, Mead Oklahoma. Service will be officiated by Dale Ballard, Pallbearers will be Danny Heath, Bill Wetzel, Tom Miller, James Stewart, Richard Houck, and Matt Brown. Virgil will be laid to rest at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Hugo, OK, underneath the shade of Crape Myrtle trees. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Streetman Road Baptist Church.
